Susan Northrup

Sterling Silver, Fine Silver, 14K and 18K Gold MFA  Art Education, School of the Art Institute of Chicago Susan Northrup is originally from Oak Park, IL. She moved to Champaign in 2001, where she has been making her unique jewelry for the past four years. Prior to 2001, Susan taught art in the Chicago Public School System. She is a certified Precious Metal Clay instructor, and a member of the Precious Metal Clay Guild, as well as a member of the National Art Education Association. Susan designs and hand produces a wide range of jewelry. Each of her Leaf Collection pieces is inspired by the innate intricacies of leaves that Susan finds near her home in central Illinois. Her One-of-a-Kind pieces are individually made using Precious Metal Clay (a clay-like substance composed of silver, water, and an organic binder). The pieces are air- dried and then fired in a kiln. During the firing, any remaining water evaporates and any organic matter incinerates, leaving only the pure metal behind.
